Dignitaries Sign Book of Condolence for His Excellency Kofi Annan.
It was with great sadness that the Mission had to inform the Government of the Republic of Guinea and the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of Guinea of the sudden demise of the former Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Kofi Annan, which sadly occurred on Saturday, 18th August, 2018.
Accordingly, the Diplomatic Community were invited to sign the Book of Condolence opened at the Chancery from Wednesday, 22nd to Friday, 24th August, 2018.
Dignitaries who honoured H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan with their presence included, H.E. Sidya Toure, High Representative of H.E the President of Guinea, Dr. Ousmane Kaba, leader of the opposition Hope for Democrats Party (PADES) and Founder of the Kofi Annan University in Conakry. Members of the Diplomatic Corps who were also at the Embassy to pay their last respects included, Ambassadors of the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, China, Nigeria, Liberia, the Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Guinea, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Office in Guinea, as well as all the Heads of the various United Nations Organisations in Guinea.
Subsequently, the Mission facilitated the visit to Ghana of Mr. Boubacar Barry, Minister for Commerce of Guinea, who led a Government of Guinea delegation to represent H.E. Prof. Alpha Conde, President of the Republic, at the final funeral rites of H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan in Accra on 13th September, 2018.
